Have you been able to find steady work as an actress since graduation? I've been really lucky. I've basically had a theater job every season for the last year. I've just been working around town. I always try to have another acting job lined up. As soon as I start rehearsal, I'm like: "I have to find the next thing."
Is it difficult to balance rehearsals and performances with other jobs? Theater is definitely my main job and it's my priority. It's where I make most of my money, actually. So it hasn't been difficult to balance. [The people at my waitressing job have] been really understanding.
Do you want to stay in the area, or do you plan to travel? I do have aspirations to move. I don't have a deadline yet, but that's something I'm trying to feel out in my life, just when that's going to happen. I love the theater community here, and if I wasn't from here I would want to stay. But ... I want to see new places and have new experiences.
How often do you audition? I feel like, in the Twin Cities, it's either a drought or when it rains, it pours. [A few months ago] there was just nothing going on. No commercial auditions, no theatrical auditions. But now that everyone's gearing up for the summer, there's all sorts of things going on. For the past month, I'd say I've had an audition a week.
How long does it take to hear back from an audition? That depends, too. Sometimes you have to audition multiple times. I've had roles where I've had three callbacks. [For "Anne Frank"] I auditioned, I had a callback a couple of days later, and I found out the next day. But sometimes it's a couple of weeks. You just have to keep the phone turned on!
