Honeywell intends to close its Maple Grove facility, where it makes fire alarm systems and other products, in the fourth quarter.
Most of the manufacturing work now done at Honeywell's Silent Knight business in Maple Grove will be transferred to the company's facility in Northford, Conn.
About 70 jobs will be cut in Maple Grove, according to Honeywell spokesman James Green. He added that the first nine jobs will be eliminated July 17. The rest will be cut through October.
"Since the majority of job impacts are expected late in the summer, we will help employees apply for positions as they become available at other company locations in the greater Twin Cities area," Green said. Honeywell has facilities in Golden Valley, Plymouth, Minneapolis and Coon Rapids.
"Our decision to transition manufacturing of one product line from Maple Grove will help us achieve greater efficiencies and growth for the business over the long-term," Green said.
About 40 people work in non-manufacturing jobs in Maple Grove, such as engineering, sales and administration, and they'll be transferred to other area offices, Green said.
He added that Honeywell is committed to the Twin Cities area. It currently employs more than 4,000 people in the region.
In a previous letter, suppliers were told that most of the Maple Grove manufacturing would move to Northford and that a smaller portion would shift to Juarez, Mexico.
