GROWTH AMONG MINNESOTA'S S&P 500 COMPANIES

The 16 Minnesota public companies in the Standard & Poor's 500 index saw earnings grow on average more than 20 percent on a 10 percent revenue increase in the second quarter. Ameriprise and U.S. Bancorp, like other financial service companies, showed a strong earnings rebound. General Mills and Supervalu were caught in a weak sector. The consumer staples industry group within the S&P 500 was one of the worst-performing sectors.
