There was a sense of relief after the Gophers women's hockey 62-game winning streak came to an end with a 3-2 loss to North Dakota on Sunday afternoon.
The late-game pressure of extending college hockey's record-breaking streak will no longer haunt or motivate the Gophers. Now they can just focus on being the 2013-2014 Gophers with a 13-1-0 record.
Here's some extra quotes from the emotional afternoon of hockey and see below for postgame video. Full game story should be updated soon.
Brad Frost:
-We're not sad it's over, we're happy cause we were a part of it. And I'll tip my hat to anybody that can go to 62 or 63 games without a loss.
-Somebody asked me last week, 'Do you have your speech planned for when you lose?' I didn't and I don't. I just talk from the heart. We lost a hockey game, welcome to the globe (earth). Losses happen every once in a while. It's not the end of the world. The sun will come up tomorrow and we'll be better here on Tuesday.
Rachel Ramsey:
-It's frustrating being upset, but at the same time it's an amazing to be part of it. As bad as this sounds, it's a relief. We're really, really honored to be a part of the 62-game streak.
Bethany Brausen:
-I knew it was going to happen at some point and that was OK. Now that's out of the way it's a slight relief in a way because it's not the primary focus anymore.
-Now we kind of know where it sits and there's not the pressure of continuing on.
