Taylor Woodson, who missed all but 12 games last season for the Gophers women’s basketball team after surgery to repair a torn ACL in her left knee, has a right knee injury and will miss the rest of this season, too.
The junior forward from Minnetonka suffered the injury in Friday’s victory over Manhattan, the university said in a news release.
Woodson was a standout player at Hopkins High School, where she was on the varsity team for six seasons and won two state titles. She played her freshman college season at Michigan before transferring to the Gophers. She averaged 17.4 minutes and 8.1 points for the Gophers last season before her injury.
Gophers coach Dawn Plitzuweit said she hoped Woodson would be granted another year of eligibility.
“This is one of the hardest parts of collegiate athletics, to see someone who has worked so hard now face another significant injury,” Plitzuweit said in the release. “I have no doubt that she will come back from this injury as an even more developed player and person.”
Woodson scored two points in 16 minutes in a season-opening victory against North Dakota, and played seven scoreless minutes against Manhattan before the injury.
The Gophers (2-0) face Marquette at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Williams Arena.
