GM to cut 2,000 factory jobs

GM to cut 2,000 factory jobs General Motors Corp. said it will lay off about 2,000 more workers early next year at three factories. The automaker said it will cut shifts at factories in Lordstown, Ohio; Orion Township, Mich.; and Oshawa, Ontario, starting in February. The layoffs amount to 2.4 percent of GM's North American blue-collar workforce of 84,000.

Johnson Outdoors plans staff cuts Johnson Outdoors Inc. said Friday after it swung to a large loss in its fourth quarter that it plans to slash spending, cut around 90 jobs and suspend its quarterly dividend in response to the global economic slump, which is hurting sales of boats and other products. The Milwaukee-based outdoor-recreation company said it is looking to reduce operating costs and spending by more than $30 million.

Swedes set up a stimulus package The Swedish government on Friday presented a three-year, $2.8 billion economic package to stimulate employment and infrastructure development for the country amid the global financial crisis.
