The Frost began their season Nov. 21 at home. After that, they played eight of their next nine games away from Minnesota.

That will begin to change now, and on Sunday, Jan. 11, the Frost showed they were thankful to be on home ice again, beating the Seattle Torrent 6-2 before an announced 9,787 at Grand Casino Arena.

“Obviously, we love playing at home,” Frost forward Katy Knoll said at a postgame news conference. “The energy is so fun to play in front of.”

Knoll and Grace Zumwinkle each scored twice for the Frost, while Taylor Heise had a goal and two assists and Sidney Morin added three assists. The Frost put up 45 shots on goal against the Torrent.

“Today, all the lines were rolling,” coach Ken Klee said. “It was a great effort by all our ladies.”

Knoll broke a scoreless tie with 2:28 to go in the first, putting in a one-timer on a power play over Seattle goalie Hannah Murphy’s shoulder. Zumwinkle added two goals in the second period, poking in a rebound of her own miss 40 seconds in and then making it 3-0 at 13:26 of the period by blowing in a wrist shot from the right circle.

Heise scored 77 seconds into the third period to put the Frost up 4-1. Abby Hustler, who also had an assist, scored the final Frost goal with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

Maddie Rooney made 24 saves for her second victory of the season for the Frost. Murphy stopped 39 shots for Seattle.

“To be honest, we just haven’t been giving her a lot of goal support,” Klee said of Rooney. “Today, it was great to see our players step up and put up a good number for her so that she could just play and not be stressed in a one-goal game the entire time.”

This game began a stretch in which the Frost (5-1-2-3) will play four out of five games at Grand Casino Arena — although their next game is again on the road, at New York on Friday, Jan. 16.

Jessie Eldridge and Danielle Serdachny scored for the expansion Torrent (3-1-1-5), who were handed the worst loss in their young franchise’s history.
