LAVAL, QUEBEC – Abby Roque tied it with 29 seconds left with goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens off for an extra attacker, Marie-Philip Poulin scored her second goal of the game 3:12 into overtime and the Montreal Victoire beat the Frost 3-2 on Sunday, Jan. 4.
Poulin skated through the defense and beat Frost goalie Maddie Rooney with a backhander in front of 10,172 at Place Bell. Poulin ran her points streak to a career-high five games.
Poulin also assisted on Roque’s goal, and Ann-Renée Desbiens made 19 saves. Montreal (3-2-0-4) ended a three-game losing streak.
Kendall Coyne Schofield scored her PWHL-leading eighth goal to give the Frost the lead with 1:50 left. Roque then tipped in Poulin’s pass from the side of the net.
Mae Batherson also scored, and Rooney made 35 saves for the Frost (4-1-2-3), who were coming off a 5-2 loss at Ottawa on Saturday and earned six of 12 points on a four-game, post-Christmas trip in Canada.
“I’ve got to give our ladies credit,” Frost coach Ken Klee said in his news conference. “We competed the whole game, we played hard, obviously we had the lead [late].”
The Frost played the third period and OT without forward Dominique Petrie, who had to be helped off the ice after getting hit by Montreal’s Kati Tabin. Klee said Petrie would be evaluated Monday.
The Frost return home — only their third game of the season at Grand Casino Arena — on Sunday, Jan. 11, for a game against Seattle.
