Two former champions, Tyron Woodley and Robbie Lawler, will fight in Ultimate Fighting Championship's main event when UFC Fight Night comes to Target Center on June 29. The last time UFC, a mixed martial arts competition, was in Minneapolis was seven years ago.

Woodley won the welterweight title from Lawler by knockout at UFC 201 in July 2016, but he lost it in March by unanimous decision to Kamaru Usman at UFC 235.

Borowicz honored

Roseau guard Kacie Borowicz was named Miss Minnesota Basketball. She averaged 27.6 points per game as a senior to help the Rams take third place in the Class 2A state tournament. Borowicz, who has signed with North Dakota, scored 3,551 points in her career — seventh most in girls' state history.

Borowicz and 39 other seniors will play in the girls' All-Star series on Saturday at Carleton College in Northfield. Games will be played at 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

U baseball update

The Big Ten baseball series between the Gophers and Illinois, scheduled for Siebert Field this weekend, has been pushed back two days because of field conditions. The teams will try to play a doubleheader on Sunday and the series finale on Monday. One of Sunday's games is scheduled to be televised on the Big Ten Network at 1:30 p.m.

Start times for the three games will be announced Saturday.

U to play Sooners

The Gophers men's basketball team is finalizing an agreement to play Oklahoma in a nonconference game in Sioux Falls, S.D. in the 2019-20 season, a source said. The date and game time are still to be determined.

• Donnell Gresham Jr., a Northeastern graduate student who is interested in transferring, is hearing from Power Five schools, including the Gophers. The Cretin-Derham Hall product averaged 9.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.1 assist as a redshirt junior this past season.

Upgrades for Pavilion

Maturi Pavilion will be significantly upgraded before the 2019 Gophers volleyball season, the University of Minnesota announced.

The University's Board of Regents approved the privately funded $4 million renovation. It will feature a 9,000-square-foot remodel of the east side of pavilion on both the lower and upper levels.

The lower level will provide athletes with access to strength training, athletic medicine, a nutrition station and hydrotherapy pools. The team room, locker room and player lounge also will be renovated."This is a significant step forward for our program," coach Hugh McCutcheon said.

The upper level will include offices and meeting space for coaches and a remodeled club room with 48 additional premium seats.

Maturi Pavilion will add air conditioning for the 2019 season.

U tennis team wins

The Gophers women's tennis team edged Northwestern 4-3 to remain undefeated (7-0) at home. Camila Vargas defeated Carol Finke 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) for the deciding point.
