Famous Dave's profit edges past estimates, unlike sales

July 28, 2011 at 2:55AM

Famous Dave's of America Inc. posted second-quarter profits Wednesday that slightly beat analysts' expectations.

The Minnetonka-based barbecue chain posted profits of $2.4 million, or 29 cents per share, roughly the same as a year earlier. The company exceeded analysts' expectations of 28 cents per share in earnings but came in just below the average revenue forecast, as compiled by Bloomberg.

Revenue for the quarter was $41.3 million, up 1 percent.

Same-store sales for company-owned and franchised restaurants both decreased, by 1.2 percent and 1.4 percent respectively.

"While our off-premise sales results were encouraging, they weren't enough to offset the weakness in our dine-in business, which still reflects the general softening of consumer confidence," Famous Dave's Chief Executive Christopher O'Donnell said in a news release.
