OK, so that's a bit of a trick headline. Donovan McNabb is having his No. 5 jersey retired. And he did play for the Vikings. But no, obviously, the Vikings are not the ones retiring it ... and, of course, it is the Eagles that are. Per NFL.com:
The announcement was made Monday by owner Jeffrey Lurie, as McNabb officially announced his retirement. McNabb thanked his former teammates and got emotional talking about Andy Reid.
"Eleven great years," McNabb said. "We made history, big fella."
McNabb also addressed his often-rocky relationship with the fans of Philadelphia, comparing it to a marriage. He reiterated his apology to the fans for not winning a title, but said he doesn't think about them booing him at the NFL Draft.
"Let's put the booing to rest," McNabb said. "That was the beginning of the era, and this is the end. I don't talk about the booing until you guys ask."
McNabb played 11 years with the Eagles before one each with Washington and the Vikings. The Eagles times were much happier, indeed.
