The only Tuesday of the Minnesota State Fair has an abundance of entertainment options.

The sun-filled day will include a final free performance by Los Lobos, the Grammy-winning band that sings a famous cover of “La Bamba,” at the Bandshell. Today is also the only day to see the Pleasant Valley cloggers. Thursday and Sunday also have clogging shows.

We are live blogging all the entertainment today, from music to magic to stunt dogs, complete with photos and video, here.

It’s Military Appreciation Day at the fair, with tickets for active and retired military members and veterans at $15. The discount extends to spouses and kids of military members, too. Military Appreciation Day at Dan Patch Park will have educational booths on programs and services that serve military families.

Things to do

Double trumpet player David Swanson from White Bear Lake will begin his three-day stint at the fair with a performance at 4:15 p.m.

The North Woods Stage will have furry performers throughout the day as dogs show off their skills at the All-Star Stunt Dogs Splash. Later in the day, check out log rolling and chainsaw demonstrations at the stage, too, with the classic Timberworks Lumberjack Shows.

Want to know if your home has the best water in Minnesota? Check out today’s “Best Tap Water in Minnesota” competition at the Sustainability Stage in the Eco Experience Building at noon.

It’s Strib Varsity day at the Minnesota Star Tribune Stage: all about high school sports beginning at 10 a.m. Strib director of high school sports Chris Carr will chat with Randy Shaver, TV anchor and high school football chronicler, at noon. Find a full schedule of the Strib stage here.

Fair food

Looking to try as many new fair foods as possible? Check out the Star Tribune’s map and find your route to all your new favorites. Be prepared for long lines at many new food stands.

If you’re looking to try only foodie favorites, the Strib’s Taste Team tried more than 80 new fair foods and rated them all. The Afro Bean Pops from Afro Deli and the Bison Meatball Sub from the Minnesota Farmers Union Coffee Shop were two standouts.

Hot food tip: After a year’s hiatus, LuLu’s Public House has brought back its Gorilla Bread ($9), fabulous little bites of cinnamon-sugar-coated biscuit dough, crispy on one side and soft on the other side from soaking up a melty cream cheese icing. This fair classic-in-the-making is sort of new, sort of not, but definitely worth your attention. Find it in the West End Market.

Music

Grandstand: It’s Def Leppard’s first Minnesota State Fair gig in 10 years. That’s because Joe Elliott and crew have been busy filling Twin Cities stadiums the last few years. They’re so big — and popular — that they are commanding the most expensive ticket in grandstand history at a whopping $292. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are back for their sixth performance at the grandstand, reprising “Rock of Ages” and “Pour Some Sugar on Me.” (7 p.m. $77-$292, etix.com)

Free: San Antonio’s Tex-Mex roots music veteran Rosie Flores will perform two sets of classic honky-tonk and fiery rockabilly tunes after being tapped by Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant to open his new band’s upcoming tour (1 and 2:30 p.m. Bandshell).

Local: Fresh from opening for alt-country hero Charley Crockett at Surly Festival Field in Minneapolis, Wild Horses bring their own brand of rootsy Minnesota Americana. (4, 5, & 6 p.m. West End Market)

Correction: A previous version of this story said Los Lobos wrote "La Bamba." They famously covered the song for a Ritchie Valens biopic.
