An air quality alert has been issued for all of Minnesota, starting at 9 a.m. Sunday and continuing until 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

The alert is due to heavy smoke from wildfires across central Saskatchewan and Manitoba on the back of a low pressure area. Air quality will diminish Sunday morning starting in western Minnesota, with the smoke moving east into the evening.

Air quality will be unhealthy for everyone in northern and central Minnesota, north of a line from Ortonville to St. Cloud, and unhealthy for those in sensitive groups south of there, including the Twin Cities.

Officials urged people to limit outdoor activities, especially those with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions. For more information on current air quality conditions, go to the MPCA’s Air Quality Index webpage.
