Without further ado, here are some predictions that my enemies are sure to use against me on Sept. 4, 2026 …

Boldest prediction

Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard will win NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Sorry for jinxing it, Jonathan, but this is me doubling down on my long-dog Associated Press vote from January.

Will the Eagles repeat?

No. Sorry, Saquon Barkley, but not buying back-to-back healthy seasons.

Will the Chiefs win the AFC again?

No. In fact, their nine-year stranglehold on the AFC West will be ended by Jim Harbaugh and his smashmouth Chargers.

AFC Championship Game

Chargers at Bills.

Baker Mayfield an MVP candidate? You betcha. (Chris O'Meara/The Associated Press)

Most Valuable Player

Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield wins the award and bows toward Cleveland, where his former team began the year with five QBs, none better than Mayfield, who was dumped as part of the Deshaun Watson fiasco that keeps on taking.

Coach of the Year

Jim Harbaugh. Take down Big Red in the AFC West and the trophy is yours.

Will the Jets end North American pro sports’ longest postseason drought at 14 seasons?

Nope. But Aaron Glenn took a big step in the right direction by cutting Aaron Rodgers.

Most underrated player

Rams running back Kyren Williams. The 25-year-old has 2,443 yards rushing and 31 TDs from scrimmage the past two years.

Most overrated player

Cowboys QB and highest-paid-player-of-all-time-you-gotta-be-kidding-me Dak Prescott. Two playoff wins. Two.

NFC Championship Game

Buccaneers at Rams.

Will Green Bay's Jordan Love, left, or the Vikings' Justin Jefferson be celebrating in the NFC North? (Anthony Souffle/The Minnesota Star Tribune)

Biggest surprise

In the Lions-Vikings battle for the NFC North title, the winner will be … the Packers.

Sam Darnold’s record without Kevin O’Connell this year

7-10, good for 11th in the NFC.

J.J. McCarthy’s record with Kevin O’Connell this year

10-7, good for the seventh and final NFC playoff spot and a trip back to Green Bay to play the No. 2-seeded Packers, where McCarthy will … (sorry, that’s where my crystal ball cuts out).

Super Bowl LX

Rams over Bills.

Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson said this season is among the most difficult of his career, but he wouldn’t call it a waste of one of his prime years.
