Young golfers Molly Stevens, Luke Alexander honored by Minnesota Professional Golf Association

Molly Stevens of Northfield and Luke Alexander were named the Valspar Players Tour Players of the Year on Friday. The awards went to the girl and boy who accumulated the most points throughout the season during the Minnesota Junior PGA's five Players Tour Series Events, Match Play Championship and final Tournament of Champions.

Stevens, who will be a junior at Northfield High School, won three of the five Players Tour Series events and had top-10 finishes at both the Minnesota Junior PGA Championship and Tournament of Champions.

Alexander, entering his junior year at Rochester Lourdes, won two Players Tour Series events and the Players Tour Match Play Championship.

U soccer returns home

The Gophers women's soccer team will play North Dakota State in its home opener at 7 p.m. Monday at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

In its season opener, the Gophers tied Washington State 0-0 on Friday night in Pullman, Wash., after two scoreless overtimes. Junior Kailee Sharp got the shutout for the Gophers with two saves. The Gophers had three shots on goal and a 14-9 advantage in shots overall.

Saints lose again

The Cleburne Railroaders defeated the host St. Paul Saints 5-1. The Saints, who have lost seven of their past eight games, scored their only run on Brady Shoemaker's sacrifice fly in the first inning.
