The "Wow Cabin" was recently featured in architect Dale Mulfinger's latest book, "Cabinology" (Taunton Press, $25), as an example of what to do with a difficult site. In this case, the challenge was how to site a cabin atop an ancient rock outcropping overlooking Ninemile Lake. His strategy was to position a tall cabin with asymmetrical, steep-pitched roof lines on the edge of that rock outcropping to take advantage of dramatic east and west views over the lake. The unique proportions, wide open interior spaces, a small footbridge to the front door and a seemingly perilous perch above the lake are all intended to make visitors say "Wow!" The 2.7-acre site is in the deep North Woods near Finland, Minn., and includes 220 feet of shoreline. Bear Island Land Co. in Ely has the listing. Call 1-218-365-2800. JIM BUCHTA
