Michael Pineda pitched four seasons for the Yankees, but has only faced them twice since leaving the Bronx in 2017. He'll get a third chance (he's 0-1 in those other two games) tonight when the Twins and Yankees meet at steamy Target Field (7:10 p.m., BSN).

Outfielder Rob Refsnyder will come off the seven-day concussion protocol list before the game for the Twins. Gilberto Celestino was optioned to the minors after a rough 0-for-12 major league start, which included a pair of errors on a single play in a tough Twins loss in Kansas City.

Refsnyder is in the starting lineup, but Nelson Cruz (stiff left knee) is not. Willians Astudillo is starting at third, with Josh Donaldson DHing.

Neither team is living up to expectations, as La Velle wrote this morning. And Wednesday's meeting, with Gerrit Cole on the mound for the Yankees, should have some interesting undercurrents.

The Saints game against Omaha at 7 tonight at CHS Field will feature Byron Buxton (hip flexor) on a rehab assignment. He'll DH tonight and play in the field the next two games, if all goes well. Kenta Maeda (arm, groin) will start for the Saints tomorrow night.

Pitcher Juan Minaya cleared waivers today and has been assigned to St. Paul.

Pineda is 3-3 with a 3.40 ERA and gets an extra day of rest after a rough outing in Baltimore last week. Lefthander Jordan Montgomery (3-1, 3.92) starts for the Bombers.

Montgomery is listed at 6-6, and Pineda at 6-7.

Randy Dobnak pitches for the Twins on Wednesday and J.A. Happ, another ex-Yankee, is the Thursday starter.
