The final pieces are coming together at Wild State Cider (2515 W. Superior St.) in Duluth’s Lincoln Park for Wrecktangle Pizza’s grand opening party on Aug. 9 and 10.

Wild State co-founder Adam Ruhland reached out to the Minneapolis pizza company in 2023 and asked if they’d ever consider opening a location up north. Wrecktangle co-founder Alex Rogers, a Duluthian who already has an office nearby, knew the cidery would be a great fit for the company. Co-owners Jeff Rogers and Breanna Evans were equally psyched about the idea, and plans moved quickly.

Now, with construction completed on a newly installed kitchen at the taproom, those thick-crust pizzas paired with crisp ciders and a Camp Creemee cone are just about ready.

In honor of the opening, Wrecktangle has built a special-to-Duluth pizza and is holding a contest on Instagram inviting fans to guess the flavor.

Once open, normal operating hours will mimic Wild State’s; 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.

Another Hope Breakfast Bar opens

The breakfast-centric local chain from Brian and Sarah Ingram continues its expansion with another new suburban location. The latest Hope Breakfast Bar is now open in Chanhassen (464 Lake Drive E.). Like the other locations, the restaurant is open daily for breakfast and lunch with a menu of decadent twists on classics, like a cinnamon roll waffle, pimento cheese scrambled eggs and more. The full bar offers equally over-the-top choices with a menu that includes boozy coffee drinks, birthday cake-flavored shots and sangria. There’s also a large selection of NA coffee drinks and other beverages. Reservations are available online.

This brings the number of Hope Breakfast Bars to nine, including an “express” location inside Gillette Children’s Hospital.

Ramen Kazama Como has closed

Chef/owner Matthew Kazama has closed his ramen restaurant at 1510 Como Av. SE. in Minneapolis. Sharing the news via Instagram he wrote, in part, “We have made the bittersweet decision to close our Como location and redirect our focus and energy toward our current ventures.”

Ramen Kazama’s original location at 3400 Nicollet Av. S. and the nearby TokiDoki Burgerremain unchanged. Ramen Kazama opened in 2015 and quickly became a popular spot for bowls of the signature dish. The second location followed in 2018. TokiDoki Burger debuted in the spring of 2024 with a menu of burgers, small plates and more.

Minneapolis boba shop is closing soon

Just shy of its one-year anniversary, 94 Bubbles, the small, locally owned boba shop at 3346 Lyndale Av. S., will close Aug. 3. The news comes after a call to fans went out via social media last month saying they were in need of support to keep the doors open.

But fans will have a chance to celebrate: There’s a farewell party on Aug. 19 — which would have been its first anniversary — from 6 to 8 p.m. with free boba, music and more. Also look for 94 Bubbles pop-ups; the brand is exploring relocation, too. Keep an eye on Instagram for details.

Located in a space adjacent to Five Watt, 94 Bubbles was a venture from Amplified Experiences, the merged company of Five Watt and Sencha Tea.

Momo Dosa exits Malcolm Yards

Another counter will go dark inside Malcolm Yards.

Momo Dosa will close at the Prospect Park food hall on July 31. In announcing the closure, Momo Dosa’s owners expressed gratitude for their fans and wrote on Instagram, “While we were eager to continue at Malcolm Yards Market, the management made the decision not to renew our lease.” The news comes weeks after Abang Yoli closed inside the Market.

Momo Dosa fans can still find the food they love at Midtown Global Market, the Mill City Farmers Market and at the new Uptown Farmers Market.

There has been a series of vendor changeovers at Malcolm Yards, with new stands Kinsey’s Deli, SushiFlip and EggFlip all opening this year.

Owamni chef promoted to culinary director

Chef Sean Serman’s nonprofit North American Traditional Indigenous Food Systems (NATIFS) has a new culinary director.

In his new role, former Owamni executive chef Lee Garman will oversee not only the food at the restaurant, but throughout NATIFS, which includes the Indigenous Food Lab and the forthcoming Shota Indigenous BBQ that will open in Minneapolis’ Seward neighborhood.

Garman was named Owamni’s executive chef in 2023, and has been leading that kitchen with its seasonal, pre-colonial menu. “This work is bigger than food. It’s about restoring knowledge, community, and pride in Indigenous cultures,” Garman said in a statement.

“Lee is an indispensable partner in this work,” Sherman said in a statement. “His technical expertise, creativity, and deep respect for Indigenous food systems have been foundational to the success of Owamni and our broader mission at NATIFS. His promotion is a natural evolution of his leadership.”
