Officials late Wednesday identified a contract employee working for the Minnesota Department of Transportation who died after he was run over by a truck Wednesday morning in Burnsville.

Pierre Raymon Mack, 29, of St. Paul, was struck shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday while in a work zone in Burnsville on southbound Interstate 35W near Hwy. 13, the State Patrol said.

Mack was on foot when he was hit by the truck with a boom attachment, said Patrol Lt. Mike Lee.

No other vehicles were involved, and the incident occurred fully inside the construction zone and away from passing traffic, Lee said.

The truck driver, Kerry Don Ingram, 50, of North Branch, Minn., was not injured, the patrol said.

Since 1960, 36 MnDOT workers and 16 contractors have died while working on Minnesota highways, the agency said in April, when it recognized Worker Memorial Day.
