NEW YORK (AP) — The ballots have been cast and the WNBA is set to reveal its All-Stars. The league will announce its 22 All-Stars on Tuesday night, including the two captains who will choose their teams.
This season the WNBA also took conference affiliation out of the midseason game so potentially, although unlikely, all 22 players could be from one conference. The All-Stars will be selected through a combination of voting by fans (40 percent), current WNBA players and coaches (20 percent each) and a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters (20 percent).
The Lynx have been promoting all five of their starters as All-Star candidates. But that isn't like to happen based on individual performance and the quality of play elsewhere in the league.
In 2017, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fowles and Rebekkah Brunson represented the Lynx, along with coach Cheryl Reeve, with Moore scoring 23 points in the West's 130-121 victory over the East.
Here's a look at who could be on the All-Star teams this year when the game is played in Minnesota on July 28:
GUARDS Sue Bird, Storm — Averaging 7.1 assists a game. Imagine how many she could have in the All-Star Game.
DeWanna Bonner, Mercury — Has provided Phoenix with that third scoring option to take some of the pressure off Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner.
Skylar Diggins-Smith, Wings — Having an incredible MVP-caliber season averaging 19.5 points and 6.5 assists. Her best season as a pro so far.
