Wisconsin broke a deadlock with three third-period goals, including two by Annie Pankowski, en route to a 4-1 victory over Minnesota Duluth in the championship game of the WCHA women's tournament on Sunday at Ridder Arena.
The top-ranked Badgers (31-2-4), unbeaten in their past 20 games, won the tournament for the third consecutive year and for the seventh time overall to receive the conference's automatic bid for the NCAA tournament.
After stopping 62 of 63 shots in a double-overtime victory over the Gophers on Saturday, Minnesota Duluth goaltender Maddie Rooney stopped 42 of 43 shots through the first two periods against Wisconsin. But Pankowski scored 33 seconds into the third period to give the Badgers a 2-1 lead.
Rooney wound up with 50 saves, giving her a save percentage of .957 on the weekend (112-for-117).
Sydney McKibbon and Sarah Nurse also scored for the Badgers, and Ann-Renée Desbiens stopped 22 of 23 shots.
Sidney Morin scored for UMD (25-6-5).
