Several wind energy research projects are underway involving the University of Minnesota and consortium partners including 3M, Barr Engineering, Clipper Windpower and WindLogics. Here are some of them:
More energy: Research into streamlining turbine blade airflow using various technologies.
Wind farm design: Studies of how to best orient multiple turbines to maximize power.
Radar: Researching radar interference so wind farms can be distinguished from aircraft and storm fronts.
Noise: Studying the cause and making airflow adjustments on blades to reduce or eliminate noise.
