William "Bill" Stoeri, new managing partner of Dorsey & Whitney, said the Minneapolis law firm is on a good trajectory, one that he wants to make sure continues.
The firm, which has 600 lawyers across its offices, said Tuesday that Stoeri will succeed current managing partner Ken Cutler in a three-year term starting Jan 1.
"The firm is in a really good place now," Stoeri said in an interview. "We've got growth in a way that I think is really positive. A big part of what I want to do is make sure we continue in the direction we're going because I think it's the right direction."
Stoeri has been at Dorsey for more than 30 years, focused on general commercial litigation with an expertise in health care. He is on the firm's management committee and is partner in charge of the firm's global trial group, head of its health litigation practice group and co-head of its health care industry group.
Stoeri said some of the firm's recent accomplishments include opening a Dallas office last year that has grown.
"This firm was founded here," Stoeri said. "It is still the largest office of the firm, and it will continue to be and we want to still be a premier firm in Minneapolis-St. Paul. With that said, we are also an international law firm. … What we found is that those other offices enhance our ability to serve clients here in Minneapolis. That's been a nice synergy that's grown."
Stoeri sits on the Minnesota Historical Society Executive Council, serving as president from 2009 to 2015. He also serves on the board of trustees of Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where he received his bachelor's degree. He graduated from Yale Law School.
"We have tremendous confidence that Bill will be able to build on Dorsey's strong global platform and ensure the firm's continued success," said Kim Severson, who serves as chair of Dorsey's Policy Committee, in a statement.
