Wednesday pregame: Brunansky rejoins Twins as minor-league coach

Slowey to face Blue Jays tonight at Rogers Centre

July 7, 2010 at 10:53PM

TORONTO -- A couple quick announcements from the Twins before heading down to the clubhouse for the lineups, etc.

* Tom Brunansky, a member of the Twins' 1987 World Series championship team, has rejoined the organization as a coach with the club's Gulf Coast League affiliate.

* Class AAA Rochester reliever Anthony Slama will replace Liam Hendricks at the All-Star Futures Game. Hendricks is out with an appendectomy.

Update: Based on some conversations I've had today, I get the feeling the Mariners are not close to trading Cliff Lee, at least not to the Twins. I was told the Mariners are scouting the Twins' system, but they are looking at several other teams as well. The Twins and Mariners have yet to exchange proposals for Lee.

I was told by a person close to the negotiations that suggestions of the Twins offering Wilson Ramos and Aaron Hicks are pure speculation. For now, at least. To be clear, I have no doubt that AOL Fanhouse has an MLB source who said he heard the Twins had offered Ramos and Hicks, but it just doesn't sound like the talks have progressed that far. Yet.

Update: Vernon Wells is back in the Blue Jays' lineup after missing Tuesday's game with the flu. The Twins won't miss seeing Dewayne Wise in center field, as he went back to take a couple hits away from Jason Kubel on Tuesday. ... Aaron Hill, who also has the flu, remains out for Toronto.

Update: The Blue Jays just announced that they will keep the roof closed for tonight's game. There's a chance of rain in the forecast, and there's a mechanical issue with the roof, so they'd rather start with it closed than have it rain and then have an issue with closing it.

Trade talks among front offices have continued to pick up over the last week. The Twins are seeking bullpen help and possibly an infielder.
