Webster out, Telfair and Johnson expect to play in opener

Martell Webster's going back to the doctor today for a second opinion that could possibly involved surgery on a back injury that he initially termed muscle spasms.

"It's definitely not long term," Webster said before saying surgery will be a topic discussed at the doctor's. "I'm waiting and keeping my fingers crossed.

"Maybe not, " he said, meaning surgery might not be required. "We're going to take it one step at a time. I'm not going to come back until I'm fully ready because I don't want to make the problem chronic."

Both Webster and Kurt Rambis said there's no way he plays Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Sebastian Telfair and Wes Johnson both said they will play in that season opener against Sacramento.

Webster, Telfair and Johnson all stayed home and missed Friday's preseason finale at Milwaukee.

Telfair said he sprained his shoulder when big Roy Hibbert landed on him last Tuesday against Indiana.

"I talk with a lot of vets and they tell me it's a nagging injury," Johnson said. "I'm just trying to stay positive and stay on top of it because it's one of those things that can hurt you the whole season."

Also, Wayne Ellington practiced with the starters on Sunday.

I asked Rambis if Ellington is his starting shooter guard.

"I don't know where I stand on that," he said. "He's been playing well. He's been doing a great job."

Rambis said there was a "slight, slight, slight" chance the team would add a player(s) with a move before Monday's deadline to set the roster for the opener.
