Vikings catching the Lions at the perfect time?

October 7, 2014 at 6:15AM

Injuries are a part of football, which the Vikings know all too well already this season.

That said, even if the Vikings are banged up right now, they could be catching a major break with Sunday's opponent, the Lions.

Per this ESPN.com report, it sounds like Calvin Johnson might not play at all after re-injuring his ankle in a loss to the Bills.

Reggie Bush is hobbling after leaving the Buffalo game, while their other primary running back, Joique Bell, is still recovering from a concussion. He might return to play vs. the Vikings, but there are obviously no guarantees.

Add that to the fact that Detroit is coming off a crushing defeat against Buffalo in which its kicker (now cut) missed all three of his field goal attempts, and the Vikings could be facing a team on the downswing despite the Lions' 3-2 record.

Detroit has done most of its damage on defense this season (second in points allowed, first in yards allowed), but without its offensive stars the Lions don't figure to run away from anyone — giving the Vikings and rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater, who will presumably play Sunday, ample opportunity to win at TCF Bank Stadium and square the team's record at 3-3.
