Local competitors: Robert Brant of Oakdale is the defending champion at 178 pounds (light-heavyweight). Manuel Contreras of St. Paul is among 19 other fighters in that weight class. Burnsville's Oscar Soto will compete at 152 pounds (welterweight). The women's division includes Ann Griffen of Andover at 141 pounds (light-welterweight) and Savannah Osburn of Bemidji at 152 pounds (welterweight).

The field: More than 300 amateur boxers will compete for national titles in 10 weight classes for men and 10 for women. In addition to the winners of regional tournaments, the field includes defending champions, members of the military, athletes from the U.S. Olympic Education Center at Northern Michigan University and national Police Athletic League champions.
