1984: Established as a demonstration project by family medicine doctors at the University of Minnesota to manage the medical care of low-income ­Hennepin County residents and ensure that patients could continue seeing the university's doctors

1989: Becomes a licensed health maintenance organization

1995: Hires current CEO Nancy Feldman

1996-97: Adds coverage for MinnesotaCare and low-income seniors

1998: Launches UCare for Seniors, a Medicare Advantage plan

2002: Membership hits 100,000

2007: Revenue tops $1 billion

2008: Expands its Medicare Advantage program to Wisconsin

2012: Enrollment nears 300,000 members after winning competitive bids from the state of Minnesota

2013: Enters the commercial market to sell on the MNsure exchange; forecasts significant 2014 growth via MNsure and another state award for coverage in 27 outstate counties
