Noora Raty, a junior goalie, stopped 42 of 45 shots and gave up only one even-strength goal as the Gophers swept Minnesota Duluth 4-1 and 3-2. For those efforts, she was named the WCHA's defensive player of the week.
She had 21 saves in the first game of the series at Ridder Arena, 22 in the second.
Raty is 9-2-0 for the No. 3-rated Gophers and ranks first among conference goalies with a 1.13 goals-against average and a .945 save percentage.
Junior forward Jocelyne Lamoureux and freshman forward Michelle Karvinen, both of North Dakota, were named the offensive player of the week and rookie of the week.
Two of the three award winners this week are Europeans. Raty is from Espoo, Finland, and Karvinen from Rodovre, Denmark.
Forward Jen Schoullis of the Gophers was among the other two nominees for offensive player of the week.
