WCHA Defensive Player of the Week: Noora Räty, fr., G, Minnesota

A slightly edited WCHA news release:

Minnesota goaltender Noora Räty, a freshman from Espoo, Finland, earned back-to-back shutouts last weekend to help the Golden Gophers to a two-game WCHA series sweep over visiting North Dakota.

Räty had 18 saves last Friday in a 3-0 Minnesota victory. She kept the Gophers in the game for a majority of the time, including stopping a shorthanded breakaway attempt in the second period.

Last Saturday Räty had a 2-0 win over the Fighting Sioux. She had some key saves in the game, including multiple odd-man rush attempts by North Dakota. She stopped all 19 shots on goal, including 13 in the second period.

Räty has seven shutouts this season and is just one away from tying the school record of eight held by Jody Horak. She also has a league-best 14-2-4 overall record, a league best 0.80 goals-against average, and a league-best .967 saves percentage over 1,197 minutes.
