Mike Guentzel can go home again.

The U of M rehired him on Wednesday. He joins Don Lucia's staff as the associate head coach.

He was let go the spring of 2008 after 14 seasons as a Gophers assistant coach. Officially, he resigned, saying he wanted to look for a head coaching job.

Since then he was an assistant coach at Colorado College for one season, head coach of the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL for one season, and an assistant coach at Nebraska Omaha for one season.

Here is the story on Guentzel's return on the Gophers' web site.

Guentzel was a defenseman for the Gophers from 1981-85. He replaced John Hill, let go about two weeks ago.
