Two recruits change their minds

Huff headed to TCU

December 7, 2009 at 11:41PM

Greetings:

Two players who had committed to the Gophers have changed their mind and decided to go elsewhere, according to Gopherillustrated.com. They are: Running back Josh Huff of Aldine, Texas and defensive back Antoine Lewis from Maywood, Ill..

By far the most important of the two is Huff, who has been rated four stars by Rivals.com. Huff originally committed to Utah, then changed his mind and declared for Minnesota. HIs latest decision, he told Gopherillustrated, was due to a couple reasons. He'd be closer to home. And, he said, coach Tim Brewster's contract situation -- Brewster is entering the fourth season of his original five-year contract -- played a part.

Lewis was a three-star recruit.

You'll remember that highly-regarded kicker Kip Smith changed his mind a while back and decided on UCLA.

You have to wonder to what extent the contract situation -- athletic director Joel Maturi has said he doesn't plan on deciding on whether or not to extend Brewster's contract until after the Bowl game -- will impact recruiting during the crucial month of December.

That's about it. Have a good night.

Every Minnesotan should be cheering on Seattle’s Sam Darnold and Leslie Frazier and against the Patriots and Stefon Diggs.
