Two more football recruits give verbals to play at U

Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck added two in-state players to his 2018 recruiting class late Friday, when St. Cloud Tech's Brevyn Spann-Ford and Highland Park's Josh Aune gave verbal commitments.

Spann-Ford is a 6-6, 230-pound tight end/wide receiver and consensus three-star recruit. He had reported offers from Missouri, Iowa State, West Virginia and North Dakota State, among others.

Aune is a 6-1, 200-pound athlete who profiles as a college safety. Rated as a two-star recruit, he had reported offers from North Dakota State, South Dakota and Montana State.

Gordon Christian dies

Gordon "Ginny" Christian, a Warroad, Minn., native who was part of the U.S. hockey team that won silver in the 1956 Winter Olympics, died Friday at 89. He was one of the first stars to play at North Dakota. His younger brothers, Roger and Bill, were members of the 1960 U.S. Olympic gold medal squad.

• Trent Klatt, who coached Grand Rapids to the Class 2A boys' hockey title this year, announced his resignation, with the former Gophers and NHL player saying he was returning to the University of Minnesota to pursue his degree.

• The St. Paul Saints' game in Salina, Kan., was rained out.
