Two people were killed Friday in a two-car crash on a snow-covered road in southwest Minnesota, authorities said.
Jean Elizabeth Hodgman, 41, lost control of her car “due to snow coverage” while driving north on Highway 274 and struck another vehicle heading south around 8 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Hodgman and her 14-year-old passenger, Jonathan David Ramos, both of Echo, Minn., died in the crash. Neither were wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the other vehicle, Stacy Lynn Timm, 44, of Montevideo, Minn., survived with minor injuries and was wearing a seat belt, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
The crash occurred in Wood Lake Township, south of Granite Falls, in Yellow Medicine County.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office, Wood Lake Fire Department, Granite Falls Ambulance and Cottonwood Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Another round of snowfall is expected Saturday that could make for difficult travel in southwest Minnesota and along the Interstate 90 corridor, according to the National Weather Service.
