The Twins still haven't named a starter for Tuesday's game in Toronto, preferring to see how the series against the Tigers shakes out before they sort through who's available to pitch.
But Scott Diamond will start the season finale on Wednesday. The Twins' best starter this season told the Twins that he's got gas in the tank after pitching the most innings of his career.
Diamond also is motivated to make the start because he's from Guelph, Ontario.
"Pitching in Canada means a lot to him," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said.
Diamond, 12-8 with a 3.54 ERA, is at least one starter the Twins can write into their 2013 rotation.
INJURY UPDATES
Eduardo Escobar, who was hit in the elbow on Friday, held a bat but didn't do much more before the game. He's not available.
And Josh Willingham, slowed by a sore left shoulder, didn't work out before the game either.
