Tonight's game is being delayed by rain.

The Twins batted .249 in June after batting .266 in April and .283 in May. They scored 100 runs, five fewer than in May. But their 50 doubles were the most of any month - and sixth in baseball.

Still, if the Twins want to be taken seriously, they must score more consistently. Step one: Start having more productive outs. Stranding runners on second and third with less than two outs is criminal. If they can't get a hit at least set up the next guy. The pitching staff, which posted a 3.08 ERA last month, is not going to bail them out all the time.

Be back later with updates.

UPDATES: Jason Kubel won't play for a couple of days after tweaking his left foot Thursday while play for Fort Myers.. He will DH on Sunday and be evaluated then,

Kevin Slowey (abdominal strain) will start on Tuesday for Class AAA Rochester.

Outfielder Delmon Young (right ankle) took batting practice and ran on the field before the game. He will head to Rochester on Sunday to begin a minor league rehab assignment.

Denard Span (concussion) worked out with the team on the field before the game but didn't take batting practice. The Twins hope he'll take b.p. sometime this weekend.

McWane said doctors were, ``very happy," with the outcome of Justin Morneau's surgery on Wednesday to remove a herniated disc fragment from his neck. He can only do light activity for two weeks as soft tissue heals. He'll need to have a couple stitches removed. After that, he will be able to increase his activities as tolerated.

``(He) demonstrated an increase in strength, which they felt is a very good sign," McWane said. ``He still has some numbness in his finger. It"s a little bit better, but we expected that to take a little bit longer. The fact his strength has gotten better was a very encouraging sign."

Trevor Plouffe hit his 12th homer of the season tonight for Class AAA Rochester. He's starting to play different positions (second, third, outfield),
