The Twins claimed righthander Jackson Kowar off waivers from the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, Feb. 3, giving them another reliever for their bullpen competition.

Kowar, who claims a spot on the Twins’ 40-man roster, had a 4.24 ERA in 15 appearances for Seattle last year. He totaled 15 strikeouts and seven walks in 17 innings.

The 29-year-old Kowar was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Jan. 27 when they made a trade with the Twins to acquire catcher Jhonny Pereda for cash.

Kowar, the No. 33 pick in the 2018 MLB amateur draft, spent his first three big league seasons with the Kansas City Royals.

After recovering from Tommy John surgery last year, Kowar recorded a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings at Class AAA as he bounced between the majors and minors.

Twins sign Bowman, Salazar

In addition to Kowar, the Twins signed pitcher Matt Bowman to a minor league deal, which marks his second stint in the organization, and reportedly reached an agreement to sign Eduardo Salazar to a minor league contract.

Bowman, who made five appearances for the Twins in 2024, had a 6.20 ERA in 24⅔ innings with the Baltimore Orioles last season.

Salazar had an 8.38 ERA in 29 innings out of the bullpen for the Washington Nationals last year, accumulating 23 strikeouts and 16 walks.

The New York Post, which first reported Salazar’s deal, noted there is a clause where he can opt out to sign with a foreign team.

Twins pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Fort Myers, Fla., on Feb. 12, with the first full-squad workout on Feb. 16.

Opening Day is March 26 in Baltimore.
