Twins-Tigers series preview: Pitching probables, radio-TV information, injury report

Detroit leads the American League Central and is tied with Toronto for the best record in the league.

TWINS UPDATE

Simeon Woods Richardson, slated to start Wednesday’s game for the Twins, was placed on the 15-day injured list because of illness and reliever Darren McCaughan was called up from St. Paul.

The Twins (52-59) make their second trip of the season to Detroit after holding on for a 5-4 victory on Sunday in Cleveland. ... The victory on Sunday improved the Twins to 14-19 in one-run games, 22-35 in road games and 12-16 against AL Central teams. ... They are 2-4 against the Tigers this season after losing two of three to the Tigers in their first trip to Detroit at the end of June. The Twins won the series opener on June 27, 4-1, behind David Festa, before losing the final two games, 10-5 and 3-0. In the series finale, Tarik Skubal allowed just one hit and struck out 13 in seven innings.

The Twins lost two of three to the Tigers in April at Target Field. Woods Richardson was the winning pitcher in the Twins’ 5-1 victory over the Tigers and Mize on April 13. ... 2B Luke Keaschall (right forearm fracture) has been on a rehab assignment with the Saints since July 18 and is expected to be recalled Tuesday.

OF Byron Buxton (left rib cartilage irritation), RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and RHP Pablo López (right teres major strain) are out. ... After the series in Detroit, and an off day on Thursday, the Twins open a three-game series with Kansas City on Friday at Target Field.

DETROIT UPDATE

The AL Central-leading Tigers (65-48) return home after going 1-2 in three-game series in Philadelphia. The Tigers lost to the Phillies 2-0 in the series final on Sunday. ... The Tigers, who are tied (with Toronto) for the best record in the A.L., have won four of their last six games after winning just one of 13 games between July 9-27.

After being traded by the Twins to Detroit on July 28, Paddack won his debut for the Tigers on July 30, allowing just one run and three hits in six innings in the Tigers’ 7-2 victory over Arizona in Detroit. Paddack, who spent three years with San Diego before joining the Twins in 2022, will be making his first start against the Twins. In addition to Paddack, the Tigers acquired RHP Kyle Finnegan from Washington, RHP Charlie Morton from Baltimore and RHP Rafael Montero from Atlanta last week.

OF Riley Greene is just the second left-handed hitter in franchise history to hit 26 home runs by the end of July. Norm Cash had 30 home runs by the end of July in 1962. Greene is also the first left-handed hitter in Tigers history to have at least 84 RBI by the end of July since Rusty Staub in 1978. Greene is the seventh player in franchise history to achieve this.

RHP José Urquidy (Tommy John surgery), RHP Alex Cobb (hip inflammation), RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (neck stiffness) and RHP Alex Lange (lat surgery) are on rehab assignments. RHP Reese Olson (right shoulder strain) is out.
