The Twins will observe a moment of silence before the game following the tragic death of Florida Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez early Sunday morning.
Fernandez was one of three men who were killed when the boat they were riding in crashed into jetty off of Miami Beach.
``All of Baseball is shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of Miami Marlins pitcher José Fernández," MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. ``He was one of our game's great young stars who made a dramatic impact on and off the field since his debut in 2013. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Miami Marlins organization and all of the people he touched in his life."
Twins players were stunned as they learned about Fernandez's death.
``I had to read it over and over just to make sure I was reading it right," Twins second baseman Brian Dozer said. ``It's a sad thing."
Dozier said he spoke with Fernandez whenever the Twins played the Marlins and during the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati and thought he was a great guy with a lot of energy.
I've never had a chance to interview him, but it's a sad day for baseball.
This is the Twins final home game of the season. Hector Santiago will start but manager Paul Molitor indicated that he limit his pitches since it's late in the season.
