San Diego put shortstop Xander Bogaerts on the injured list before the series because of a broken foot.

SAN DIEGO UPDATE

The Padres (75-59) put SS Xander Bogaerts on the 10-day injured list Friday because of a non-displaced fracture in his left foot. He was injured when he fouled a ball off the foot Wednesday against Seattle. Bogaerts has played in 131 of the team’s 134 games and has a career-high 20 steals.

San Diego, in second place in the NL West standings, visit Target Field for its first — and only — series of the season with the Twins. It was idle Thursday after losing two of three to the Mariners in Seattle. ... The Padres are 15-10 in August and 23-15 since the All-Star break. ... They are 32-37 on the road. ... Against AL teams, they are 17-22, including 6-3 against AL Central teams.

3B Manny Machado leads the team in home runs (21) and RBI (78). ... OF Ramón Laureano is hitting .315 with six home runs and 20 RBI in 25 games since joining the Padres after a trade with Baltimore on July 31. Overall, he is hitting .296 with 21 home runs and 66 RBI in 107 games this season.

OF Gavin Sheets, in his first season with the Padres after four seasons with the Chicago White Sox, is hitting .350 (14-for-40) this month after hitting .198 in July. In his last 16 games, he has 10 extra-base hits — six doubles and four home runs — and eight RBI. On the season, he is hitting .259 with 18 home runs and 60 RBI. ... Former Twin Luis Arraez, in his second season with the Padres, is hitting .233 this month after hitting .323 in July. On the season, he is hitting .283.

Pivetta, in his first season with the Padres after four-plus seasons with Boston, is second in the N.L. in victories and tied for sixth in ERA. His 13 victories are a career-high and his ERA is a career low. He is 2-1 in four career starts against the Twins. He was the winning pitcher in Boston’s 8-1 victory over the Twins last September in Boston.

RHP Robert Suarez leads the N.L. With 35 saves. Suarez was 9-3 with 36 saves last season in his first season as the Padres closer. ... LHP Adrian Morejon was the winning pitcher in the Padres’ 7-6 victory in Seattle on Tuesday. It was his 10th victory of the season as he became the first reliever in MLB this season to reach 10 victories. On the season he is 10-4 with three saves and a 1.78 ERA in 63 appearances. He has not allowed a run in his last 20 outings (20⅔ innings) on the road.

RHP Michael King (left knee inflammation) and OF Jackson Merrill (left ankle sprain) are close to be activated from the injured list. King, sidelined since Aug. 11, pitched in a simulated game on Aug. 24, while Merrill is eligible to be activated on Aug. 30.

TWINS UPDATE

The Twins (60-73) open a seven-game homestand after going 2-4 on a six-game road trip to Chicago and Toronto. after winning one of three games in each series on the trip, which ended with a 9-8 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday in Toronto. The Twins, who have lost five consecutive series, are 9-16 in August and 27-42 on the road. ... They are 33-31 at Target Field.

The Twins, who are 16-23 in interleague games this season, went 1-2 against the Padres last August in San Diego and won two of three from the Padres in May 2023 at Target Field. ... OF Byron Buxton, who hit two home runs on Wednesday, is within one home run of matching his career high of 28 set in 2022.

Rookie 2B Luke Keaschall was 7-for-20 with two home runs and 4 RBI in five games on the road trip and has reached base safely in 25 of 27 games to start his career. He is hitting .337.

RHP Pablo López (right teres major strain) made his second rehab start for the Triple-A Saints on Tuesday and could be activated as early as Sunday. ... ... RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation) made a rehab start for the Triple-A Saints on Thursday and could be activated next week (teams can expand rosters on Monday). ... C Christian Vazquez (left shoulder infection), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and OF Alan Roden (left thumb sprain) are out.

After the series with San Diego, the Twins open a four-game series with the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
