Twins-Orioles: Twins place Pressly on DL with lat strain

Twins open a three-game series against Baltimore tonight, part of a seven-game homestand that takes them into the All-Star break

The Twins have placed righthander Ryan Pressly on the 15-day disabled list with a right lat strain. The move is retroactive to Sunday.

Shane Robinson has been reinstated from the family emergency list.

That gives the Twins 12 pitches for the first time in about seven weeks.

Just watched Miguel Sano take grounders at third while getting advice from manager Paul Molitor and one Trevor Plouffe.

Eduardo Escobar was taking grounders at second. Makes me wonder if Brian Dozier is about to get a day off here.

In addition to working at third, Sano also did some first base work. Molitor wants Sano to expand his defensive options, which is probably a good things since indications are that his work at third isn't the greatest. Plouffe warned Sano about one of the traps a young player falls into is thinking he has to be quicker in the field because he's in the majors. ``You have more time than you think you do," Plouffe said.

Danny Santana worked on bunting before the game, which also needs to happen.

Jason Frasor has been designated for assignment by the Royals. He has a 1.54 ERA but has walked too many batters. But he could be a veteran arm the Twins could use. Aaron Thompson leads the AL with 41 appearances and Blaine Boyer is second with 40. At that rate they will be gassed by the end of the season, and some of their recent hiccups might be the result of workload. Boyer was pitching for the third straight day when he faltered on Sunday.
