Awful.

Just awful.

The Twins twice lost leads they should have on Sunday in a loss to Washington that has to have the coaching staff and front office concerned. The bullpen is a little short right now with Glen Perkins injured, but they have arms good enough to get the job done and they flat out aren't doing it.

And then John Ryan Murphy's errant throw to first - on a bunt that might have went foul if he had left it alone - didn't help matters one bit. This team is now reeling as it heads home following a 1-4 homestand.

Clutch at bats meant nothing. The Twins get consecutive two-strike hits from Joe Mauer, Eduardo Nunez and Brian Dozier - with Dozier blasting a three-run homer - but Trevor May promptly gives up two the next inning. Bad 0-2 pitches. A belt-high pitch to Wilson Ramos on 0-2. Another breaking ball in the dirt for a wild pitch.

I'm torn on the Bryce Harper home run pitch served up by Kevin Jepsen. It's Bryce Harper, for one. Two, the pitch was at the knees. But lefty hitters often like those pitches at the knees, so Jepsen has to take the blame, too.

I had no problems with Tonkin coming for O'Rourke. O'Rourke was gassed the previous inning. Tonkin has to make a pitch.

Murphy's error was horrible. Give credit to Oliver Perez. It was two out and the corners were playing back. He took a shot and it worked out. Murphy could have let that ball go and let it roll foul. He also had a play at first, but it was a horrible throw that allowed the tying run to score.

Then Tonkin throws a 79 mph breaking ball over the middle of the plate, and it got crushed. One of the worst losses I've covered. They had a chance to win DESPITE the 20 strikeouts!!!!

Look for more than one roster move on Monday as the Twins try to put together a bullpen for the Cleveland series. Tonkin, O'Rourke, Fernando Abad and Ryan Pressly have to be gassed.

Brandon Kintzler, who pitched well enough to make the the team our of spring training, could get a shot. Lefty Taylor Rogers could be on his way back to the majors. Danny Santana was 2-for-4 with a homer Sunday and likely is on His way to Minneapolis. But they need bullpen arms
