ARIZONA UPDATE

The Diamondbacks (73-74) are in fourth place in NL West standings but are only four games behind in the NL wild card race. ... They will be making their first appearance at Target Field since 2023, when the Twins swept a three-game series by outscoring them 20-6. ... The Diamondbacks are 5-5 in their last 10 games after winning the series finale on Wednesday in San Francisco 5-3. The victory ended a three-game losing streak.

OF Corbin Carroll, who is hitting .254, has 75 extra-base hits — second-most in MLB behind Shohei Ohtani’s 77. Carroll has 30 home runs and 26 stolen bases. He is four stolen bases shy of becoming the first 30/30 player in franchise history. He has scored 98 runs and is two runs shy of his third consecutive season with 100 runs scored. ... SS Geraldo Perdomo is batting .284 with 18 home runs, 93 RBI and 25 stolen bases. His 93 RBI were tied for fourth in NL through Wednesday’s game. He has an .832 OPS. ... Diamondbacks starting pitchers have quality starts in seven of their past nine games.

2B Ketel Marte left Wednesday’s game in the seventh inning after fouling a pitch off his right instep. It was diagnosed as a right foot contusion after X-rays were negative. C James McCann (low back tightness) is day-to-day ... 1B Tyler Locklear (left elbow inflammation), 1B Pavin Smith (left quad strain), OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (torn right ACL) and RHP Kevin Ginkel (right shoulder sprain) are out. ... After the series with the Twins, the Diamondbacks return home for a 9-game homestand against San Francisco, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

TWINS UPDATE

The Twins (64-82) open their final homestand of the season after going 2-4 on a road trip to Kansas City and Los Angeles. The trip concluded with a 4-3 loss to the Angels on Wednesday. ... They are 2-8 in their past 10 games and are 35-36 at Target Field. They were 43-38 at home last season and have not had a losing home record since 2021. ... They are 18-24 against NL teams this season. After this series, they have one more interleague series this season (Philadelphia, Sept. 26-28).

Since Aug. 12, the Twins have stolen 34 bases in 40 attempts — second-most in MLB (New York Mets have 38) in that time. OF Byron Buxton stole his 22nd base of the season on Tuesday night. On the season he is 22-for-22 and he has been successful on his last 28 attempts dating to last season. ... OF Austin Martin has reached base 27 times in 55 plate appearances (16 hits, 11 walks) in his last 15 games. In 36 games with the Twins this season, he is hitting .290 with a .388 OBP. ... OF James Outman went 4-for-9 with a double and two solo home runs in the three-game series with the Angels.

López will be making his second start since returning to the active roster after being sidelined for three months with a right teres major strain. ... C Ryan Jeffers (concussion injured list), RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation), C Christian Vazquez (left shoulder infection), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and OF Alan Roden (left thumb sprain) are out. ... After the series with the Diamondbacks, the Twins’ 10-game homestand continues with three games against the New York Yankees before ending with four games against the Cleveland Guardians.
