Twins' Chattanooga minor-league team plays 21 innings and wins with walks

While the Twins were letting the 2017 season walk away from them over the weekend in Oakland, their Class AA minor-league team -- the Chattanooga Lookouts -- couldn't get off the field.

The Lookouts needed 21 innings on Saturday night (and early Sunday) to beat Birmingham 2-1 in a Southern League game.

By the end of the game, Chattanooga's second baseman had move to the pitcher's mound to pitch a scoreless 19th and 20 innings before returning to his position -- and outfielder Max Murphy, a graduate of Robbinsdale Cooper, was the winning pitcher after shutting down Birmingham in the top of the Birmingham's.

The Lookouts won the game without touching the ball, scoring the winning run on four consecutive two-out walks. (The walks were served up by Birmingham's first baseman, doing emergency service on the mound.)

We're not sure where to begin, but here are a few things to know.

*Maybe blame the 21 innings of Lookouts starter Felix Jorge, who recently had a brief stint with the Twins. After all, if he hadn't allowed one run in nine innings .. (Yes, we're kidding.)

*Cooper helped extend the game and set up his role as winning pitcher by throwing out a runner at the plate in the 10th.

*The teams fell short of the Southern League record for the longest game ever played. That's 23 innings, which has been accomplished twice.
