ATHLETICS UPDATE

The Athletics (56-70), playing home games in West Sacramento, are in last place in the AL West but are 8-7 in August. Their 11-5 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday was just their third in the past nine games. ... The Athletics hit three home runs on Sunday and are sixth in MLB for the season with 174 home runs. They have hit 47 home runs since the All-Star break. The Athletics pitching staff has allowed 178 home runs.

Going into Sunday’s game, the Athletics led MLB in runs scored in the first inning (90) and ninth inning (70). ... Rookie 1B Nick Kurtz, 22, leads MLB rookies in home runs (25), RBI (67), extra-base hits (48) and runs (61) and had the 20th four home run game in MLB history. ... C Shea Langeliers is hitting .348 in 15 games in August with eight home runs and 13 RBI. On the season, he is hitting .270 with 26 home runs and 56 RBI. ... Former Twin Brent Rooker is hitting .275 with 25 home runs and 72 RBI. ... The Athletics have made nine errors in 28 games since the All-Star break (tied for second-fewest in MLB) after making 64 in their first 98 games this season.

SS Jacob Wilson (left forearm fracture) started a rehab assignment on August 16. Wilson, who has been sidelined since July 26, is expected to return in September. He is hitting .312 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI. ... OF Denzel Clarke (right abductor strain), C Austin Wynns (abdominal strain), RHP Luis Severino (left oblique strain), RHP Luis Medina (right elbow strain) and RHP Grant Holman (strained right middle finger) and 3B Max Muncy (right hand fracture) are out.

TWINS UPDATE

The Twins (58-66) continue a seven-game homestand by concluding their season series with the Athletics. They are 1-3 on the homestand, after losing the first three games of a series with the AL Central leading Detroit Tigers. Their’ 8-1 victory over the Tigers on Sunday was their third in the past 10 games. ... The Twins are 11-12 against AL West teams, including 3-1 against the Athletics. They won the first three games of a four-game series in early June in West Sacramento before the Athletics won the series finale, 14-3. They outscored the Athletics, 26-8, in the first three games of the series.

Since the beginning of the 2022 season, the Twins are 19-4 against the Athletics, including 9-1 at Target Field. ... The Twins are 33-27 at home. They are 7-9 in August after going 20-31 in June and July. ... OF Byron Buxton was 4-for-23 in the first six games of August before going 3-for-5 on Sunday. He hit his 25th home run of the season, which is three shy of his career high of 28, set in 2022. His 18 stolen bases are his most since 2019.

Going into Sunday’s game, rookie 2B Luke Keaschall had reached base safely 32 times in his first 18 games. Only three other Twins — Rich Becker (35), Luis Arraez (34) and Kirby Puckett (33) — had more. Keaschall, who was 1-for-4 on Sunday in his 19th game, is hitting .343. ... Reliever Michael Tonkin has allowed no runs and just one hit in 7⅔ innings over his last six appearances.

C Christian Vázquez (left shoulder infection), RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (illness), RHP David Festa (right shoulder inflammation), LHP Anthony Misiewicz (left pectoral strain) and RHP Pablo López (right teres major strain) and OF Alan Roden (left thumb spraing) are out. ... After this series, the Twins open a six-road trip on Friday in Chicago. The Twins will play three games at the White Sox and three at Toronto.
