Tolbert up from Rochester, Casilla to DL, Hughes to be called up

Twins can take three of four games from Texas with a win tonight. Scott Baker on the mound.

UPDATE: The right hamstring injury sustained by Alexi Casilla during Wednesday's 7-2 victory at Texas is serious enough that the Twins second baseman is returning to the Twin Cities for treatment. Casilla, who has been a major part of the team's rebound from a horrendous start, is likely headed to the disabled list.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Casilla will be out 2-3 weeks and will be placed on the 15-day DL after tonight's game. Luke Hughes will be called up from Rochester.

STILL ANOTHER UPDATE: Casilla has been placed on the 15-day DL and Luke Hughes will arrive here in time to travel to Oakland with the club.

Tolbert, Hughes and Trevor Plouffe will see time at second.

Casilla's strain is between Grade 1 and Grade 2.

For those of you upset that Plouffe isn't playing, remember that Gardy has never seen Plouffe at second. He's going to have to take a lot of grounders there. And remember how inexperienced he looked as an outfielder. Tolbert can field, and that's important.

As expected, Matt Tolbert has been called up from Class AAA Rochester and is starting at second base tonight. Lefthander Chuck James has been sent back to Rochester, so the Twins have 12 pitchers and a four-man bench again.

Who thought the Twins had a chance to win a four-game series here after Monday's 20-6 loss? With Scott Baker on the mound tonight, it's possible.
