Birding film
If you missed "Emptying the Skies," a documentary about bird poaching, you weren't alone. It played in few theaters in few cities.
The film introduces us to migrating songbirds that funnel through the Mediterranean, and to people who hunt them illegally. The birds are considered a culinary delicacy in some cultures, so they are captured by the thousands.
The practice has roused a small group of bird lovers to guerrilla-style action. The film follows them as they steal into hunting grounds, destroying traps and painstakingly freeing the captives.
