A teenager riding a dirt bike veered off a sidewalk and was fatally hit by a pickup truck driver on a Coon Rapids street, officials said.

The collision occurred about 4:40 p.m. Sunday on Northdale Boulevard at Marigold Street NW., the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office said that the dirt bike rider, 15-year-old Isaiah Lewis Whitlock of Ramsey, died at the scene.

The pickup driver, 53-year-old Erik Thomas Bofenkamp of Oak Grove, was not hurt.

According to the Sheriff’s Office:

Whitlock was riding northwest on the sidewalk along Northdale Boulevard when he swerved onto the road at the intersection with Marigold Street.

The pickup driver, heading southeast on Northdale, hit the dirt bike.

Coon Rapids police initially responded to the crash scene, while the Sheriff’s Office will investigate the circumstances of the collision, including what prompted Whitlock to swerve into the street.
