Tuesday’s opening night performance of the Neil Diamond jukebox musical “A Beautiful Noise” was interrupted unexpectedly by technical troubles at the Orpheum Theatre.

About 15 minutes into the second act of the show, with actors Robert Westenberg (who plays the older Diamond) and Lisa Reneé Pitts (who plays his therapist) onstage, an announcer suddenly alerted the audience that there was a problem.

“Ladies and gentlemen, we have to hold for a brief technical pause,” the announcer said.

The pause lasted about 22 minutes. A press representative for Hennepin Arts, which operates the Orpheum, could not provide details about the delay Tuesday night.

Technical woes are relatively commonplace for these Broadway tours that usually have hundreds of cues and scores of moving parts. But those problems are often solved before they become visible to the audience.

Recent tours at the Orpheum where technical troubles interrupted a performance include “Little Jagged Pill” and “The Phantom of the Opera.”

After “Beautiful Noise” resumed Tuesday night, it received ovations.
