The 10-minute barrier at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is safe for another year.

Japan's Nobuhiro Tajima topped Unlimited Class challengers and won his fifth consecutive Race to the Clouds, finishing in 10:11.490.

"I'm very disappointed," Tajima said. "I thought I was faster, and it was a very good run. The car and everything worked well."

It was the 88th running of the hill climb, with 107 drivers, including a 16-year-old girl, competing in 21 classes. The Hill Climb is the nation's second-oldest race, behind the Indianapolis 500. The 12.42-mile course ascends 4,721 feet through 146 turns to the 14,110-foot summit on paved and gravel surfaces.

Fresh from three weeks of training in Colorado, Phelps won the 200 butterfly on Saturday but was last in the 100 freestyle. He finished third in the 200 freestyle Sunday.
